The System is designed from the ground up to support Training, Test, and Demonstration Services for developers, testers, integrators, and end-user customers. These are valuable in developing, integrating, testing and training. Some of the features include canned actions, canned data and errors, configuration and upgrade scripts, record, playback, support for remotely located devices, device emulation, event logging, and analytics.
Most of the tools and features are common and supplied as System APPs and Object Methods/Interfaces, allowing device and application vendors to leverage off pre-created or defined elements that they can incorporate and interoperate with. Some data, such as canned actions need to be supplied by the developers.
Overall, these same tools and features are used by the developers and integration lab to test their systems, larger customers that integrate the features into their systems, and end users to test new features and train their staff.
The System is modular and can be configured into individual systems that match generic (default) configurations, specific user requirements, and/or a customer’s exact system configurations.
Configured systems can be placed into different operating modes:
-
Operational Mode – This is the normal mode while the configured system is in operational mode. Many of the same tools for “Test” and “Training” mode are active and part of the Operational mode to help monitor and provide feedback on system, individual and group performance
-
Demonstration Mode - Automated/canned and interactive scenarios that allow the configured System to Demonstrate its capabilities with or without direct interaction
-
Test Mode – Putting the selected System/Subsystem into a mode that allows for automated/canned and interactive testing of a System typically with the focus of testing all of the configured elements and scenarios associated with a Specific System (audit and test evaluation tools)
-
Training Mode – Very Similar to the “Test” mode with automated/canned and interactive scenarios to assist in the training of an individual or group of individuals with the focus of evaluating the individuals and groups Performance (audit tools and metrics analysis)
It is envisioned that the systems can support more than one “Mode” at a time, allowing training to be done on the main system without interfering with the operation of the Main System. For example a “Fake Patient(s)” with a person(s) in a “Test Role” could train in a number of areas, without interfering with normal operations (real billing, escalations, etc.), but still be able to be measured and evaluated. The data/events can be flagged to the specific mode or a separate parallel set of data can be maintained for each mode.
The systems are designed to be inexpensive “System in a Box” which can also be configured as standalone Test and Training Systems that can share or have their own independent devices, roles, and configuration parameters. The System uses various versions of “System in a Box” to provide local and remote training depending on the end-user needs and configuration. Some are as simple as a PC configured as a system. It is envisioned to have onsite or remotely accessible systems available for purchase or rent.
Most of the common operational, test, demonstration, and training tools and features are part of the same set of tools and features required to do testing and certification. The trick is in defining the test tools and documentation, so it can be used for the other supported modes.
These System Tools and Features leverage off of the Common High-level Test Plans, Procedures, and Emulators for the development of training for individual system installation, verification, operation, and individual user training.
There are many different types of training envisioned for the System
-
Onsite at the Interoperability Center Training (classroom and lab)
-
Remote Site (customer, developer, integrator, conference/tradeshow, etc.)
-
General Online Training (canned scenarios and Interactive)
-
Custom configured onsite and/or online systems for specific training (provides specific end-user training, training for new employees, training for new features and devices, and system upgrade training)
-
Scenario Training ability to load in a set of fixed tasks, schedules, and roles and then play out a scenario in a Training Mode (note: pre-constructed scenarios can also be created an loaded in an Operational Mode, if a real scenario was enacted)
Scenario Training
Scenario Training has many some interesting additional use cases that could be invaluable in training and eventual real situations. Basically it is a method to define roles, scheduled events, and escalations that are needed to be done and verified in case of a certain situation. Theses pre-constructed scenarios allow all of the critical roles and tasks to be able to be created in advance, tested/training with the staff, evaluated for effectiveness and issues, corrections/updates made, and ready to load for the real thing. Basically, the Scenarios can test their emergency preparedness (in training mode), and if an emergency did occur, the scheduled setup tasks can be loaded with a start time (in operational mode).
The National Disaster Recovery Framework is a prime example of this feature’s power. It contains clearly defined plans, roles, and schedule for what needs to be done on National, Regional, and Local levels in case of an Emergency. This plan could be scripted into their configured System to train, test, and deploy the plan across all of the individuals, with pre-downloaded scheduled events and instructions (based on their role) on their Smartphones, tablets, and/or PCs. Events and audit tools support a wide variety of metrics and tractability to make sure things happen as expected.
Some of the Scenarios include:
-
Emergency Response Outage or Disaster Response in an area
-
Emergency response at a Hospital
-
Emergency response at a Site
-
Emergency Response in a large Corporate or Public venue (where they have established local resources and plans)
-
Setting up and operating a Relief Center and Services
Training Customers
The System supports many different industries and end-users, performing a wide variety of different functions.
The following is a sample list of some of the different categories of individuals and groups that would use online or direct training:
-
Sales and Marketing
-
Developers
-
Test and Certification
-
Integrators
-
Evaluators
-
Customers
-
Individuals
-
System Administrators
-
Medical Staff
-
Traditional and Boutique Call Centers
-
Hospitals and clinics
-
Retirement, Assisted Living, and Nursing Centers
-
Community outreach
-
Emergency personnel
-
Personal Service Providers
-
Certifications
There is a plan to have “Practitioners” complete some forms of training. Optimally, it would include online training, followed by OJT or Practical classroom training, and then signoff by a Doctor or school.
There would be training for basic parts of the System and then additional training for some devices, tests, exams, and treatments that might require additional training. The System would be able to match and limit the Practitioner to the testing, exams, and treatments they are certified for. This is actually more than what is currently required for Medical Assistants today. <Read more about the Intelligent Adaptive Examination and Treatment Decision Tree>
Cross Training
This concept still needs to be explored, but there is a possibility using training/certification to expanding the current capabilities of some professions to include some forms of Healthcare. While they might not be able to provide as thorough examines, they could provide valuable Healthcare services to more people and more areas, and still have Technology Assisted Exams/Testing with Health Professional review and backup through telemedicine
Some Examples:
-
Physical Therapy Providers also providing basic examinations in their offices directly and/or through their Medical Assistants
-
Chiropractors also providing basic examinations in their offices directly and/or through their Medical Assistants
-
Massage Therapists providing basic examinations and even doing some skin screening
Potential Classes
As previously mentioned the System is designed to provide a variety on On-line, Classroom, and OJT Training. These are also designed to be able to be provided on the Customer’s Operational or Training/Test Systems, as well as network available training from Individual Schools or the Vision Center.

Demonstration and Trade Show Services
There are expected to be a large variety of customers, sales/marketing, integrators, individual participating companies, etc. that would benefit from having accessible demonstration units where they can show off different devices, features, and APPs. This is important based on the wide variety of industries, companies, and end-users for the different configured systems.
It is envisioned that configured low-cost System-in-a-Box Demonstration systems (different devices, features, and Apps) would be available for online and local use for sale, rent, or loan. With each delivered element supporting this feature (with data to drive them in a demo mode).
Some of the uses of configured demonstration systems include:
-
Center based demonstrations (can be customized)
-
Support for remote demonstrations (applications and telemedicine) at customer sites
-
Coordinate and sponsor general industry tradeshows and conferences
-
Support member requested tradeshow support
-
“System in a Box” for Member Demos, tradeshows, and conferences
